Potato Awards 2014 + GIVEAWAY!

Potato Awards

Hear ye, hear ye! The Potato Awards of 2014 is now upon us! We started doing this last year and it was a major success, and we’ve decided to have another showdown of books this year again. I know it’s already almost a month past, but better late than never, right? And besides, there is a giveaway involved as well! Read on our entries and join the giveaway at the end to get a chance to win ONE of any books highlighted here!

Are you ready to explode your TBR?!

Standout Cover

Our first category goes to the best cover of 2014 (or 2015?). There have been many books published this year but for us, there is always that ONE cover that stands out among the rest, and here are our picks.

Aimee Faye Rashika

Kelly Pili Serena Zoe

Most Original Premise

This category is dedicated to the books that have dared to think outside the box. Tired of the same old clichés and tropes? Do you want to read something new? For us, these books gave the most refreshing reading experience.

Aimee Faye Rashika

Best Series Starter

God knows how many series we get in a year. There are duologies, trilogies, sagas, and many others that have been running for years! These books, however, were the most memorable, and we anticipate how far they will go.

Aimee Faye Rashika

Mariesa Pili

Best Series Finale

Whoever is ready to say goodbye to their darling series? Not I, said the dog. Not I, said the cat. Not I, said the cow, and definitely not I, say I! Wait, what? In any case, we may have said goodbye to these series, but we said them with a smile, because boy! did they go out with a bang.

Aimee Rashika

Favorite Debut Author

There are our favorite authors, and there are our favorite debut authors. These were the ones who were given a chance to shine in 2014, and we are their minions forever and ever and ever.

Book That Would Make an Amazing Superhero Movie

Last year, after watching Disney’s blockbuster Frozen on screen, we held a category for which book we would want Disney to make into a musical. This time, after the success of Big Hero 6, we decided to choose the books we read in 2014 that we want to see go pew pew in the big screen!

Aimee Faye Rashika

Love This Gal

The young adult demographic is full of heroines. Some of them good, some of them bad, and some of them AWESOME. Here are our favorite heroines of 2014.

Aimee FayeRashikasayDianne Kelly

Go Crawl in a Hole, PleaseOne of Newton’s laws of motion states that for every action, there is a reaction. In a bookworm’s world, for every heroine you love, there is also a heroine you don’t love (for hate is such a strong word). These are the girls that made us want to bang our heads on a wall.

Aimee Faye Rashikasay

Swoons for my Sweet

Did you know? Bookworms have book boyfriends. They can be one, or two, or three, but they are our boyfriends. Yeah, they are fictional, we know that (just don’t say it to our faces), but even then, we also have our favorite book boyfriends. Here are the ones who made us swoon the most!

Aimee Faye Rashika

Serena Valerie

Get Away From Me!

And just like the heroines we don’t like, we also have heroes or love interests who we don’t like (for hate is such a strong word). These are the boys who, if ever they were real, we prefer to stay the fuck away from us.

Aimee Faye Rashika

Villain I Love to Hate

They may be villains and bad guys and boogeymans, but we love them just the same. We wouldn’t want the villain to be any other way!

Are You Even a Villian

And of course, these are the villains who don’t even try to be good-evil. Does that make sense? There are complex villains, and there are the one-dimensional ones who make you wonder if they doused themselves with cheese. We don’t want any cheesy ones over here!
Aimee Faye Rashika

My Room Became an Ocean

These are the books that hurt us, punched us, gutted us, kicked us and poked us in the feels where it hurt the most. These are the books that moved us and emptied our tearducts.
Aimee Faye RashikasayJules Kelly Mariesa ZoeRollin' My Eyes

The worst thing that can happen to a bookworm is to yawn and roll her eyes while reading a book. There are so many books in the world, life is too short for the boring ones!

Freaking Intense

Have you ever felt like you’re at the edge of the cliff and are about to fall? Have you ever felt like you’re on your toes? Have you ever felt your heart jumping, kicking, and squeezing – all at once? We have, and these books are the culprits.
Aimee Faye RashikasayLarissa

Okay so many of these I agree with and so many of these I need to freaking read still! I so want Fantasy to win though because 2014 was made of fantasy win and this coming from the girl that said she didn’t like the genre.

I would have said Gates of Thread and Stone for my Golden Potato! My Rolling My Eyes winner (loser?) would have been Talon. I have not read any of these books, but I have Jackaby, The Darkest Minds, Salt and Storm, A Thousand Pieces of You, and We Are Called to Rise waiting to be read. The book that I want beyond all others? The Girl With All the Gifts! I loved the Potato Awards graphics and the creative category titles. Thanks for including a fab giveaway. :)

Fabulous pics, ladies! I was just at the library trying to decide on a few of the books you mentioned… one of them being The Winner’s Curse (snagged!), and The Jewel (hesitant). There’s a lot that I do hope to snag at the library should they ever appear, but they haven’t made an appearance… yet.

Or they’re at another branch. -_-

Wow ladies this is one heck of an awesome post! I honestly don’t even know where to begin? I’m just thrilled to see so many books that you’ve listed as loving that I still need to read yet, such as Rites of Passage, Dangerous Girls and the Girl with all the Gifts! I have had all three of them for the longest time! Also Peter Kavinsky!! Honestly I need more of this guy like now! Also how cool was it that you got so many bloggers involved in this post too, it’s always cool to get an opinion from so many different readers :)

I used to do something similar called The Book Awards way back in 2013 but for some reason they never caught on…Oh. I don’t know. Maybe because I completely forgot about it and had no followers to vote at the time. Odd really. In fact I think that’s how most of the things I did back in 2013 ended up like – forgotten :P

I do love this idea though. I have to say, I probably agree with maybe Aimee the most. If I won, I’d love a copy of either To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before or A Mad Wicked Folly please :)

This is such a awesome post <33 Loved seeing my own recommendations among others, including you three.

There's so many great (and some not so great) books out there to read and so little time. My TBR is a mountain as it is, but from this post I've added even more to it. In particular: Clean Sweep (I love Urban Fantasy but sadly don't read too much of it, think this is an amazing one to get me reading more of that fun genre), (Don't you) forget about me (I've never read a novel by Kate, however have only heard great things), Thorns of Sea and Sky (this one seems really well done, and the main character definitely appeals to me), Things We Know by Heart (I loved Golden by Kirby and I can't wait to be enveloped by her writing again), Touching the Sky (unique premise and emotionally poignant? Sign me up), Rose Under Fire (it's no secret I love my well done historical fiction), Lies We Tell Ourselves (I don't know why I haven't read this yet, IT'S CALLING MY NAME) and The Martian (so interested by this one) are now all officially on my watch list.

Thanks for the giveaway and for updating my TBR to now the height of Mount Everest.

Hi!! I am Lyka. :) Let me tell you about myself. I am a chemical engineering student and I am really fond of reading books and collecting of course. Even if I’m riding the lrt, fx or whatever I find ways just to have time for my readings to be able to catch up and have time for my studies. Honestly, mostly of the books that I have are fiction and classics. To be honest, I want to explore other genres if you would give me a chance. I would really like to have the book, “Thousand Pieces of You”. I was attracted by its cover and its title. I bet its a love story. I really wanna be into the young adult genre. If ever you’ll give me the chance, oh my god haha God bless you!! xx One thing you’ll surely not regret haha xx

A few I haven’t heard of before, so naturally I need to check them out. Nice work ladies and thanks for sharing <3

I totally agree with Aimee (I think we have the same trigger points when it comes to books) when it comes to the girl in How to Love being totally annoying! Just couldn’t stand her.

Choosing one book from this list is hard, but if I won I think I would choose Murder of Crows. I own the first book in that series and I keep hearing good things about it, so I would love to have the second book as well as I hope I am goign to enjoy this series. Or the Immortal Crown, also here I own the first book in the series and even though I really want to read it, I can’t seem to get around to reading it.
