(Blog Tour + Giveaway): The One Where You Find Out What Alison Goodman’s Favorite Dessert is

Dark Days Club-BlogTour-2

The Social Potato welcomes you to a fun game of WOULD YOU RATHER with Alison Goodman

A couple years ago, Alison Goodman stole my heart with Eon so when I found out she had a new book coming out, I WAS EXCITED. It seemed so different from the Eon series and I was looking forward to diving into one of her beautifully articulated worlds again. So, for the purposes of the blog tour, I thought I’d ask Alison Goodman some fun Would You Rather questions so we could all get to know her better and find out her dessert preferences because dessert is the most important meal of the day (and excuse you if you don’t agree.)

Would you rather be born in the regency era or the future?

The future – no doubt about it.  While regency fashion was pretty and the dancing was fun, all of the research I have done has shown me how very hard it was to be a woman at that time. Women were given little education and had very few opportunities to actually earn a living beyond marriage.  A woman was also legally the possession of either her father or husband, and could not own property. Frankly, that sucks, big time. There were also very few flushing toilets, no showers, lots of dodgy medicine and a high childbirth and infant mortality. So, yes, it is definitely the future for me. In fact, I have written a version of the future in my novel Singing the Dogstar Blues. Although the future that I imagine is not entirely trouble free, it is a hopeful one. I grew up watching and loving Star Trek, so I have a fairly optimistic view of the world to come.

Would you rather be a wealthy orphan or poor and have a family?

Like The Beatles sang, money can’t buy you love. On the other hand, not all families are loving. If my “poor” family was a loving family, then I would rather have that support and love than loads of money.

Would you rather live in a world where all sorts of dangerous supernatural creatures exist or one without any magic at all?

Give me a bit of magic. Everything has a good and bad side, and if having some dangerous supernatural creatures means I can magic up some stuff too, then count me in.

Would you rather be forced to live in Antarctica or a tropical rainforest?

Tropical rainforest. I do not do well in the cold. I’ve only seen real snow twice in my life, and both times I was not impressed.  I live in Australia so I’m far more used to heat – sometimes over 40 degrees Celcius (104 Fahrenheit).

Would you rather romance Mr. Darcy or Spike?

Oh dear me, I would have to choose Spike even though his is bad and dangerous. I can’t help remembering that balcony scene with him and Buffy in Season 6 … Plus, Spike’s gorgeous high cheekbones, English accent and lean physique are exactly my type (my husband has high cheekbones, is lean and from London!). Here’s an interesting fact – I have actually met James Marsters who played Spike. He is lovely, funny and, to my surprise at the time, not English! He hails from California.

Would you rather have a pet dragon or pet unicorn?

Pet dragon. Dragons can fly and, as the author of Eon and Eona, I already have a strong connection to all things dragonish!

Would you rather have to wear ball gowns or jeans/pants for the rest of your life?

I would take the pants options. I don’t wear jeans a lot, but I do like wearing palazzo pants and wide leg trousers. It would be quite irritating to have to walk my dog in a ball gown.

Would you rather be gifted a box full of chocolate from all around the world or have someone bake a cake for you?

Cake. I love cake and I especially love vanilla cake with salted caramel ice cream. Mmm, just thinking about it makes me want to eat a huge bowlful now!

A woman after my own heart, THE CAKE SHE DESCRIBED *drools all over her computer*

Thank YOU SO MUCH for stopping by and taking the time to answer my (mostly) ridiculous Would You Rather questions.

Rashika is a mysterious creature who likes to hide in the shadows. It's impossible to get to know her but if you must know, she is a huge bookworm. She also happens to have a huge sweet tooth so you can always lure her over the dark side by offering her something sweet (or bribing her with books).

The Dark Days Club is one of my most anticipated reads of 2016, it’s so exciting you got to interview the author! I loved the questions you asked, it was so fun to read about! However, I haven’t read Eon and Eona yet, how good is is? I just know it’s about dragons, actually… Sadly, I’m an international blogger so I can’t participate in the giveaway, but it’s great Penguin is giving a chance to US readers! :)
